Our PhD in Social Work program prepares scholars committed to the pursuit of knowledge that advances the field of social welfare and social work practice.Boston College's Office of International Students and Scholars serves over 1,000 international students, faculty, and research scholars from more than 98 countries. The office will advise you regarding your pre- and post-arrival needs and provide valuable orientation and social programs.Social workers provide information, advice and support to those who are socially excluded or are experiencing crisis; they protect the welfare of vulnerable groups including children, young people, people with disabilities, elderly people and people who are mentally or physically ill, and they may specialise in specific areas of work.

For the rest of spring semester and all summer sessions, Boston University has directed undergraduate students to return home, canceled in-person classes, moved to remote teaching, called off all events and athletics, and minimized lab research.Students in our MSW program can further individualize their education by cross-registering for one social work-related elective per semester in another graduate school or department at Boston College (e.g., Lynch School of Education and Human Development, School of Theology and Ministry, Sociology Department, Psychology Department, etc.).
The critical linkages between social work and social science research, theory, and practice build upon our faculty strengths and expertise, and grow through interdisciplinary collaborations and expertise in areas such as health, mental health, trauma, addictions, child welfare, and aging.
